Seeds of Wisdom

THE CUP
John 18:11 - “So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”
Jesus' words to Peter before his betrayal and arrest have profound lessons for believers in Christ. The cup symbolises the unique journey and purpose each believer must embrace, representing the trials, tribulations, and challenges appointed by the Father. We are called to accept our own cups with faith and obedience. Our cups may vary in shape and size, yet they are tailored to refine, strengthen, and shape us into vessels of God’s purpose. By drinking from our cups, we become more in tune with God's will and are able to develop, change, and strengthen our relationship with our Heavenly Father. We believe in God's sovereignty despite the possibility of pain, loss, and sacrifice.
Though the contents may be bitter, we can find solace in knowing that Jesus, our Saviour, drank from the same cup before us. He understands our struggles, empathises with our weaknesses, and intercedes on our behalf. As we drink from our cups, we are reminded of Jesus’ ultimate act of love and redemption. The cup He willingly drank from bore the sins of humanity, securing salvation for all who believe in Him. Through His sacrifice, the cup becomes a symbol of hope, redemption, and eternal life. Therefore, let us approach our cups with humility, surrender, and trust. Let us not shrink back in fear or resistance but embrace them as opportunities for God’s glory to be revealed in and through us. As we drink from our cups, may we echo the words of our Saviour: “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Amen!
