NOAH FOUND GRACE IN THE SIGHT OF GOD
Genesis 6:7-8 – “So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created-and with them the animals, … creatures that move along the ground-for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.”
Amid the wickedness that penetrated society and corrupted the hearts and lives of the people in Noah's generation, Noah found grace in the sight of God. The same applies today, where God can still find people He can trust. He determined to blot out the people from the face of the land and punish the wicked who would not repent. God's holy character demands that He punishes the wicked who refuse to repent. Peter emphasised that God knows how to rescue the godly from trials and keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment.
Noah found favour (grace) in the eyes of the Lord as he was deemed righteous and blameless in his generation. God saved Noah and his family through his obedience to build the ark. God gave Noah specific instructions on how he should build the ark: gopher wood, three floors, pitch inside and out, one door, and one window. The ark was 300 cubits long (450 feet), 50 cubits wide (75 feet), and 30 cubits high (45 feet). It held two of every kind of unclean animal and seven pairs of every clean animal. The instructions for the ark were specific and detailed. Noah, being righteous and blameless, kept God’s command to the letter. “Thus, Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did” (Genesis 6:22). We too show our faithfulness to God when we keep His commandments.
