GODLINESS AND CONTENTMENT

1 Timothy 6:6 – “Godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Many times, when we talk about contentment, some people think we are against progress. No. Paul is saying contentment never comes from externals! It comes from inside of us which are products of self-control and satisfaction. People often purchase products they do not need. Manufacturers advertise their products; they try to convince us that contentment is not possible without their brand of product. You do not need to go for it! The desire for more even when you do not need it can be greed. As long as you believe more is better, you will never be satisfied. Why? Because you can never have enough but be content with what you have.

1 Timothy 6:7 says, “We brought nothing into this world, and we cannot take anything with us when we leave it.” If one dies and people ask, ‘How much did he/she leave?’ The answer will be ‘Everything!’, including a legacy of good or bad. “Some people who crave for money have wandered from the true faith” (1 Timothy 6:21). If your pursuit of material things is leaving no time for God, re-examine your priorities and start changing them because the time is too short. There is nothing you have that God has not given. Stop thinking that until you have everything before you can serve Him or be a blessing to others. Start where you are, appreciate God for what He has done and be content with it. Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
