DEPENDENCE ON GOD: THE POWER OF PRAYER
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart … in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."
In the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges, David, armed with just a sling and five smooth stones, faced the giant Goliath. His confidence stemmed not from his own strength, but from his unwavering trust in God's power. In 1 Samuel 17:45, he declared, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts." This intense trust in God's ability to overcome the impossible, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of prayer. In Luke 1:37, we are assured that "with God, nothing will be impossible." This truth stresses the significance of prayer as a demonstration of our reliance on God's limitless power. When we pray, we acknowledge that our strength and abilities are insufficient, and we surrender to His divine intervention.
Psalm 46:10 admonishes us to "Be still and know that I am God." Amidst the busyness of life, it is essential to carve out intentional moments to spend in God's presence. Just as Jesus frequently withdrew to pray in solitude (Luke 5:16), we too must prioritise time with Him. Like Mary, who chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to His words while her sister Martha was preoccupied with tasks, we must prioritise the one thing needful-communion with our Saviour (Luke 10:38-42). Similarly, when we prioritise prayer, we choose intimacy with God over the distractions of the world. Our dependency on Him deepens, and we experience His power in our lives. As we reflect on the power of prayer, let us remember that it is not merely a religious duty but a profound expression of our dependence on God. May we make time to commune with Him daily, trusting in His unlimited power to overcome every obstacle we face.
