OVERCOMING THE SPIRIT OF FEAR
2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Paul makes us understand in the above scripture that, fear is a spirit just as faith is a spirit. When we speak of the spirit of a thing, we are talking about its personality and character; how it operates, the power and authority it holds, whether for good or bad, and the influence it has over us.
Fear is a demonic strategy designed to keep people in bondage and hold them captive. It is a feeling caused by the belief that something dangerous or bad will happen. Fear is an imagination, a threat from the devil to manipulate people’s thoughts. Allowing fear to remain active will take hold of your thoughts, paralyse your momentum, and suffocate your God-given destiny. Through Christ, God has given us the power to overcome and break the spirit of fear over our lives and the strength to fight and be victorious over the enemy’s tactics.
You can overcome fear by using God’s Word. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds." In Luke 10:19, Christ declared the authority that He has given to us. Isaiah 54:17 says, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." If you allow fear to rule in your heart, it will be louder than the Word of God. To overcome this, you must renew your mind daily with the Word of God. Meditating on and speaking the Word will fill your heart with peace and give you the confidence to conquer fear.
