THE RELEASE OF THE SPIRIT

2 Timothy 2: 21“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things which are dishonourable—disobedient, sinful, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”

God’s intent is for man’s spirit to be His dwelling place, with the Holy Spirit through a union with the human spirit governing the soul. Thus, our spirits and souls would then use the body as the means of expression for God. It is the independent actions of our souls that must be destroyed. The soul must become the organ or vessel for the spirit’s use. The self-strength and self-government of the soul have been dealt with by the death of the Christ. This is like the experience of Jacob, who, after the angel had touched his thigh, ended with a limp (Genesis 32:24-31).

Until the soul has been broken of its strength, it wants to be a master.  If we submit to the Lord’s yoke, the symbol of union and service, we can appreciate how the soul finds its greatest value in service, rather than ruling. Anyone who serves God will discover, that the greatest hindrance to his work for the Lord is not others, but his own self. There is one important thing that will make our service useful before God, and this is brokenness. The Lord wants to break the outward soul of man in order that the inward spirit of man may have a way out. Because it is only when the inward man is released that people are blessed through our service.
