Seeds of Wisdom

FAITH AND OBEDIENCE
1 Kings 17:9 – “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”
There was a severe famine in the land after Elijah had declared that there would not be rain for three and a half years. God led him to the brook where He said: “You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to sustain you there [with food].” Elijah did as he was directed, and God fed him by the brook. After some time, the brook dried up because it was time for God to move him to another level.
When it is time for God to move people to the next level, what you used to enjoy may become unappealing or dissatisfying. It may be that God wants to move you to another season of advancement, which will require your sensitivity, faith, and obedience. The same hand that held back the rain will also pour out His provision of oil and flour through a widow. When that happens, God will call you to leave Cherith and go to Zarephath where He will provide for you again. The covenant-keeping God who never changes can be trusted to provide. If you cling to how God has blessed you in the past, you may miss how He will bless you in the future. Clinging to Cherith when God has called you to Zarephath is the surest way to miss His blessing. God said to Elijah, “Go to Zarephath I have commanded a widow to feed you.” Believe that your favour or opportunity is waiting as you take a step of faith in obedience.
