KEPT BY THE POWER OF GOD
Psalm 126:2-3 - “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy...”
The Israelites had difficult lives. They had times when things were good, but there were also times when they were captured. They were taken to a different country, and they were forced to work very hard there. They were not free. There were times when other countries attacked them, and they had to fight for their lives. There were times when they wandered around in the desert for years and years, trusting God but sometimes not trusting God. But then, they were set free! God brought them back to where they belonged. Their hope had come true! And suddenly, they were filled with joy. They could laugh again. God had rescued them. Other nations saw this and said that “the Lord [had] done great things for them.” They knew what God had done for them and they celebrated.
The Lord does great things for us as well. God created us and God redeemed us. God loves us unconditionally (no matter what). Psalm 126 reminds us that those who “sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.” God turns our tears into songs of joy. There will be times when we are upset, angry, and frustrated. But we can trust that God is there. And that God will do great things. God will turn our tears into songs of joy. The Lord has done great things for us! And God will continue to do great things!
