WAKE UP TO THE REALITY OF FREEDOM

Acts 12:8-9 - “Then the angel said to him, ‘Put on your clothes and sandals.’ And Peter did so. ‘Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,’ the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.”

Peter was being set free from prison by an angel, and he did not even know it. He thought he was dreaming. Peter, a follower of Jesus, was set free from a trance by Jesus' teachings. Jesus taught that if we held to His teachings, we would know the truth, which would set us free. He promised unconditional love, peace, forgiveness of sins, and an abundant life. However, like Peter, we often walk in a trance, unaware of the truth that Jesus promised. We often wake up in a spiritual dream, living our days as if God did not exist. Peter's awakening woke him up, and he realised he was free from jail. We must wake up to the spiritual reality that God has for us, to the truth and the promise of victory. By following Jesus' teachings, we can experience the spiritual reality that God has for us.

Peter wrote a wonderful promise that should be our motivation in 2 Peter 2:3–4: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these, he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature.” Jesus said it this way: “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. If the son sets you free, you are truly free.” But you must wake up to the reality that you are indeed free.
