DISCIPLESHIP IS A STEWARDSHIP
1 Peter 1:10 - Regarding this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace [of God] that was intended for you, searched carefully and inquired [about this future way of salvation].
Stewardship within the Christian context encapsulates the sacred responsibility we bear as Disciples of Christ to faithfully manage what He has entrusted to us. This Principle of Discipleship calls us to emulate Christ's example in every aspect of our lives, including the management of resources (1 Cor. 4:2). Discipleship is not merely about following Jesus; it is a transformative journey of learning and growth, embodying the teachings and character of Christ. As stewards, we are called to manage God's resources with wisdom and integrity, recognising that we are merely caretakers rather than owners of His abundant blessings.
The Scriptural truth regarding ownership is beautifully articulated in Psalm 24:1-2: "The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” As disciples, we acknowledge that everything belongs to God, and He entrusts us with these blessings to steward them for His purposes. Our role is to steward with humility and generosity. In Matthew 25:14–30, the servants are entrusted with varying amounts of wealth by their master, and rewarded accordingly. This parable underscores the importance of faithful stewardship and the accountability we have before God for how we manage His resources. Another inspiring example is Joseph’s life (Genesis 37–50). Despite enduring betrayal and hardship, Joseph remained steadfast in his faith and demonstrated exemplary stewardship in various roles throughout his life. Stewardship extends beyond material possessions to include the management of time, talent, and spiritual gifts.
