DO NOT ABANDON YOUR POSITION
Acts 12:20 – “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms “‘May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it, and, “‘May another take his place of leadership...”
There is a lot to learn from the above scripture. It simply teaches us not to trivialise our position and allow it to slip from us. It was evident that Judas did not cherish the position he was given by the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible says Jesus “chose” 12 Apostles from His disciples (Luke 6:13). To choose a thing suggests preference - that you have many, and have intentionally selected the ones you prefer.
Our position as children of God must not be taken lightly because Jesus said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you…” (John 15:16). 1 Peter 2:9 also declares “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who...” Whatever position we hold as children of God or church workers, we must cherish our position and act wisely and circumspectly. Sadly, Judas allowed Mathias to take his place (Acts 12:26) because he took his position with levity. He was one of the Apostles who saw and walked with Jesus, which was a great privilege.
As children of God, we cannot afford to live anyhow and lose our position. Likewise, as workers in the vineyard, we must understand that it is a great privilege to be co-labourers with Christ. Therefore, whatever we have been commissioned to do in any capacity let us do it with all our heart as we can be replaced anytime when we take things for granted. Ask yourself how you are building on the foundation that has been laid. Are you serving faithfully? Paul admonishes us to build with care in 1 Corinthians 3:10.
