THE NARROW WAY

Matthew 7:13-14 - “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus presents a stark choice to His followers: "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, …few who find it." This profound teaching points out the importance of choosing the narrow path, despite its challenges, over the enticing charm of the wide road that leads to destruction. As believers, we are called to be discerning in our choices and to prioritise the eternal over the temporal. The narrow way, though fraught with obstacles, leads to life - a life lived in communion with God, characterised by righteousness and obedience. It requires discipline, self-denial, and a firm commitment to following Christ.

Social media, celebrity, and fortune are just a few of the diversions that exist in today's society, making it simple to lose direction and give in to peer pressure. We are, however, admonished to ignore the allure of earthly gratification and keep our eyes fixed on the straight and narrow road leading to eternal life. We are obligated to follow Paul and Joshua's advice, just as they cautioned the Israelites to choose life and live in a way that pleased the Lord. Let us not be swayed by the transient pleasures of this life, but rather let us persevere in seeking God's will. May the narrow path, which leads to righteousness, obedience, and eternal life, be chosen by us as Christians, being aware that it is the route leading to genuine satisfaction and eternal joy in our Lord's presence.
