DISCIPLESHIP REQUIRE SACRIFICES
Luke 18:28-30 – “Peter said, “Look, we have left all [things—homes, families, businesses] and followed You.” And He said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as much in this present age and in the age to come, eternal life.”
Becoming a disciple of Christ Jesus is not merely adopting a set of beliefs; it is a commitment to follow Him wholeheartedly. This journey of discipleship is a daily choice to walk in His footsteps, which often requires sacrifice and self-denial (Luke 9:23). Similar to the rules of a school, discipleship provides a framework for building our lives upon a solid foundation of Jesus Christ, adhering to foundational principles that shape our character and guide our actions (1 Timothy 3:15). Significant to these principles is the Code of Sacrifice.
Sacrifice is the bedrock of discipleship, essential for embodying the essence of following Christ. Romans 12:1 calls us to present ourselves as living sacrifices, fully committed to serving God and advancing His kingdom. This means being prepared to endure hardships and setbacks, all for the sake of honouring God and furthering His purposes on Earth. Furthermore, sacrifice involves dying to our selfish desires and ambitions, surrendering our will to God's divine plan and taking up our cross daily (John 12:24, Luke 9:23). As His disciples, sacrifice becomes our lifestyle of offering ourselves and our resources for the sake of the gospel. As we continue to journey with Christ, let us remember that true abundance is found in surrendering all to Him and finding our ultimate satisfaction in His presence.
