THE CROSS BRINGS ASSURANCE OF HOPE AND LOVE

Jeremiah 31:3 – “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore, with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.”

Low self-esteem is a common issue in various problems like teen suicide, depression, alcohol and drug abuse, and marriage breakdown. It stems from a lack of self-worth and a poor estimate of oneself. This issue often begins in youth when we receive messages that we are not okay, such as being called names, failing in school, or causing trouble between parents. The problem is not whether these messages are accurate or not, but how they are stored in our subconscious minds. As we grow older, these thoughts motivate us to improve and quiet the inner voice that says we are not worthy, no good, or will never be good enough.

Children who grow up believing they are not all right become angry, depressed, frightened, and insecure adults, who often end up raising the same kind of children. But the cross of Jesus Christ has the power to finally break this cycle because it loudly and clearly says, "I love you with everlasting love." When nobody cares about you, even when you do not care about yourself, Jesus, who paid the sacrifice for your redemption on the cross, says, "I love you more than anyone else. While we were still helpless, at the right time, God died for the ungodly. One will hardly die for a righteous man, though perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom 5:6-8.) Now my importance is based on the fact that God has noticed me and sacrificed Himself for me. I can honestly say that I am free from guilt, fear, rejection, and the opinions of people and society. I am who God says I am in Christ Jesus.
