CULTIVATE GOOD HABITS

"Do not be deceived: ‘Evil company corrupts good habits."

Corinthians 15:33

A habit is “a thing that you do often and almost without thinking, especially something that is hard to stop doing. Different things have been said about how long it takes to form a habit. But what is certain is that it takes repeating an action over time before it becomes a habit. A good habit can be cultivated just as a bad habit can. Whichever one you cultivate determines one’s future.

Your habits will make you or break you. Whoever desires a good future should not cultivate bad habits. But whoever cultivates bad habits and hopes to have a good future, lives in self-delusion. The good thing is that one can break bad habits by cultivating good ones. Cultivating new habits and replacing bad habits with good ones is not always easy, but it is possible. A child of God can depend on the help of the Holy Spirit in building good habits.

James 1:21 says, “So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct...” A filthy habit and the Holy Spirit indwelling a believer are incompatible. If you must make it this year, you must cultivate the use of your time wisely and engage with meaningful things that will move you to your goal. Those you associate with can make you cultivate good or bad habits.

A bad company can corrupt good habits and influence you to cultivate bad habits. You must cultivate a reading habit to develop your mind and knowledge. To be innovative and creative, you need to learn from the people who have hidden treasures in their books. Are there good habits that have been corrupted in you or new bad habits that you have learnt from others?

What bad habits must you stop and what new habits should you cultivate to replace them? You can only break a bad habit by replacing it with a new profitable one.
