THE POWER OF PERCEPTION
Mark 4:11-12 – ”And He said to them, ”To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that “Seeing they may see and not perceive, ….”
The apostle Paul had longed to preach in Rome and was at last on the way with 277 people and goods when a tempest arose. Paul, however, perceiving that much damage would come to the ship, advised the captain who ignored his advice. But not long after that, a great tempest arose and resulted in much loss to the ship and goods. Many Christians experience the STORMS of life because they neglect spiritual advice. After much suffering, Paul had a visitation from the angel of the Lord, that there shall be no loss of any man’s life because Paul must surely preach the gospel in Rome.
PERCEPTION is an instrument that God uses to direct our lives. The absence of PERCEPTION means a lack of direction, which results in the shipwreck of life. In Acts 27:31, Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.” It is important to abide in the ship - in CHRIST, to stay safe and allow the Holy Spirit to guide and lead us rather than allowing our five senses of sight, hearing, feelings, taste, and smell; to determine our actions. This is because, with the senses, there is potential for error, likewise when we depend on our minds rather than the Spirit. My prayer, like Paul, is that we will sharpen up our spirit man and allow God to guide and shape our perceptions in life.
