Seeds of Wisdom

A NEW DAWN AND A REFRESHING

Colossians 3:2 - “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”

We have begun the second half of the year, having already completed the first. As we have entered the beginning of the second half, it is a good time to reflect on the six months that have ended and look forward to the half that is unfolding. It is also a good time for God’s people to take inventory of their walk with the Lord. We should take a very close look at where we are in our relationship with Him. We need to examine ourselves and see where we have been, where we are and where the Lord wants us to be. The passage above gives us the opportunity and the challenge to do just that.

Before the year ended, I believe many cleaned their homes and decluttered whilst retaining some items. The same principle applies to our spiritual lives. Some things try to attach themselves to our lives that are just plain trash and must be kicked to the curb. Other things simply do not have a place in our lives, and thus, must be discarded. Paul tells us in verse 2 of Colossians 3 that we are to focus our thoughts on Heavenly things. While we do that, we are to avoid getting caught up in things in this world that would swamp our minds and hinder our walk with God. If we allow the mind to focus on this world, it will have no time to give itself to the things of God. Colossians 3:1-5 mentions distracting hindrances that may impede our progress; learn from these and avoid them!
