MORAL EXCELLENCE
2 Peter 1:5 – “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue.”
Moral excellence involves doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong. According to Peter, virtue means principles, moral goodness, or excellence. God wants you to add virtue or moral principle to your faith. As important as faith is, there are certain things that God requires you to add to it, for you to have a life of constant productivity and ever-increasing glory. God wants you to live a life that measures up to the standards and principles stated in His Word, and to employ diligence in doing so.
Luke 4:16 gives us an example that Jesus went to the synagogue as His custom was. Is that your standard? Do you have this as your custom? In principle, do you go to church when it is time for church? Or do you go only when it is convenient? Some people only go to church when they feel like it. They have no standards. They lack moral excellence. However, for Jesus, it is customary for Him to go to the synagogue. He was trained in that, and as He continued in it, He discovered His purpose in the presence of God. Luke 4:16-19 says that as He was in the synagogue one day, a scroll was handed to Him to read where He declared His mandate. Adopt this principle. Add prayer, worship, and the studying of the Word.
