PROOF OF LOVE

1 John 2:5 – “But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him...”

The proof of our love for God is in our obedience to His Word. Only by obeying God’s Word can we truly express our love for Him. Loving God is in doing what He says. You cannot walk in complete disobedience to the Word of God and claim you love Him. In John 14:21, Jesus says “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” You cannot claim to love God when you do not keep His commandments or His Word. When you love someone, you naturally want to obey the person, you want to please the person by doing what he/she says and wants. This is exactly what Jesus is saying. If you claim you love me, you will do what I have said in the Bible. You do not love me, that is why you do not obey My Word.

The commandments of God are not grievous. They are not burdensome (1 John 5:3). They are for our protection and safety to bring us to an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).  The Word of God is for our good.  The more you obey His Word, the more you show that you love Jesus. Jesus said in John 14:21 that when you do this, my Father will love you and I will disclose myself to you. Jesus will reveal Himself more and more to you. “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
