Seeds of Wisdom

DISPLAY GODLY WISDOM IN THE MARKETPLACE
1 Samuel 18:5 - “So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.”
We are expected to represent God wherever we find ourselves. One of the places we spend most of our time is the marketplace. The marketplace is where we work and earn wages. David worked under Saul; so that was his marketplace. The Bible records that David behaved wisely wherever Saul sent him. He was highly regarded because he continued to grow in wisdom, “Then the princes of the Philistines went out to war. And so it was, whenever they went out, that David behaved more wisely…” (1 Samuel 18:30). Even Saul, who was David’s boss, feared him (David), “Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him” (1 Samuel 18:15). Wisdom will make people (bosses and colleagues) fear and honour you. There are a few things we can learn from David: Firstly, David purposed in his heart to walk in the wisdom of God. In Psalm 101:2 he declared emphatically that “I will behave wisely in a [a]perfect way….”
Secondly, David loved the Word of God. He allowed Psalm 119:105 to guide every step he took. We cannot behave wisely if we do not love God’s Word. It is His Word that guides and orders our steps aright. The true test of our Christlike lifestyle is in the marketplace; that is why we must behave wisely. Thirdly, David feared God, and this was reflected in his behaviour. May our lives in the marketplace bring glory to God and win souls for Christ.
